The 2022 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 24th, 2022. If you are interested in running for Council, here’s the information you should know. Nomination or Registration period begins on Monday, May 2nd, 2022 and runs to Friday, August 19th, 2022. Nomination papers may be filed in person or by an agent with the Municipal Clerk/Returning Officer at the Municipal Clerk’s Office, Municipal Office located at 10836 County Road 2, Grafton, ON between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM and on Nomination Day, Friday, August 19th, 2022 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Each Nomination Paper (excluding School Board Trustee Candidates) must be signed by 25 eligible voters supporting the nomination.

The individuals providing signatures must sign a declaration stating that they are eligible to vote in the Municipality on the day they sign the endorsement.

You are entitled to be an elector and to run for office if you are not disqualified by any Act or Law and on Voting Day if you are:

1. A resident of the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand; or,

2. A non-resident, who is an owner or tenant of land in the Township or the spouse of or same sex partner of such owner or tenant; and,

3. A Canadian Citizen; and,

4. Of the full age of 18 years.

The required nomination fee for a Member of Councillor/School Board Trustee is $100.00 and the required fee for the Head of Council is $200.00. The required fee shall be in the form of cash, debit, a certified cheque or money order made payable to the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand and must accompany the signed form.

POSITIONS FOR WHICH A PERSON MAY FILE A NOMINATION PAPER FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICE:

MAYOR (1 TO BE ELECTED AT LARGE)

DEPUTY MAYOR (1 TO BE ELECTED AT LARGE)

COUNCILLOR (3 TO BE ELECTED AT LARGE)

Please check with the Clerk’s office to ensure that you are on the Municipal Voter’s List.

It is the responsibility of every elector to make sure their information is up-to-date and accurately reflected for electoral purposes. By logging into voterlookup.ca, eligible electors can:

  • confirm or update their electoral information;
  • add an elector name to an address; and,
  • change school support for the purpose of voting in a school board election.

This site is owned and managed by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), responsible for identifying all potential municipal, school board and District Social Services Administration Board electors.
